The tour begins in the morning with our guide picking you up from your hotel where you will begin the first leg of the tour, Plaza del Centenario opened on the 9th of October 1920. Here you will see an impressive monument, called “La Columna de los Próceres” that pays tribute to the heroes of the “Gesta libertaria” on 1820 that marked the Independence. A brief stop by Parque Seminario better known as Parque de las iguanas or Iguana Park where you will see a monument of Simón Bolívar and a wide variety of iguanas. A very popular site is “The Catherdral” constructed in 1924 by Francisco Xavier de Garaicoa who was named the first bishop of Guayaquil.
We’ll continue the tour with a visit to the city, walking through the “Malecon 2000” and “Las Peñas” neighborhood, walking through this place will take you back in time with its narrow streets and colorful and historic houses which played home to many distinguished people that represented the political and cultural side of the country. This neighborhood has maintained its colonial charm through time even though the surrounding areas have evolved with the time.
Finally we will climb the steps of Cerro Santa Ana, where you will enjoy a stunning view from atop Cerro Santa Ana and be able to see the city of Guayaquil down below, as well as the Daule and Babahoyo rivers that flow into the great Guayas River.
After a traditional Ecuadorian lunch we will head to “Parque Histórico Guayaquil” an historical area that revives the charm of the past. Arose at the end of the colonial era and the start of the republic. At the park you will enjoy an area that is Spread out over almost a mile. Known as the zone of “vida Silvestre” where you can observe a wide variety of different plants and animals typical to the Ecuadorian coast. On our last stop we will visit the botanical gardens; opened in 1979, Guayaquil’s botanical gardens are home to over 325 species of native and imported tropical flora. Well-tended paths wind through sections of ornamental plants, orchids, and bromeliads, as well as medicinal plants and herbs, fruit and lumber trees, and various crops. The orchid collection is particularly beautiful. This is a great place for urban bird-watching, with over 70 avian species on record, as well as over 60 species of butterflies. Afterward we will return to the hotel.
