This mountain is clearly visible on the skyline from Quito. Cotopaxi is one of the most scenic volcanoes we have in Ecuador. Cotopaxi Volcano shines from the others because of its conic shape and its characteristically vertical rock in the middle.
Our tour starts from your hotel in Quito, we will drive south of Quito on the Panamerican highway, and beautiful agricultural landscapes are possible to see around. After an hour and fifteen minutes we will reach Cotopaxi National Park. The park is located 60 kilometers from Quito and 30 kilometers from Latacunga. Going to the Cotopaxi, along the avenue of the volcanoes you will have a panoramic view of: Cayambe, Pichincha, Pasochoa, Antisana, Corazón, Rumiñahui and Ilinizas volcanoes. We will drive through a secondary way into the park learning about its ecosystem of flora and fauna.
We will stop in the Interpretation Centre where we will learn about the Volcano and its natural history. You could enjoy a Coca tea to avoid altitude sickness. After that we will keep driving to Limpiopungo Lagoon at 12.320 feet where in a clear day we will enjoy the majestic Cotopaxi Volcano!
Then we will drive up to the parking place of the mountain at 14.400 feet if the physical conditions allow us we could walk to the refuge Padre Jose Rivas at 15.360 feet! This will be the highest elevation we can go without any special requirement.
